Biography
My name is Sara Garland, and I am an editor, writer, and photographer. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Advertising from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. I also hold a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, and I have completed various graduate courses in writing, technical editing, and document design through the University of Memphis.
As a writer, I have had creative nonfiction and fiction stories published in a variety of journals and online publications. In 2021, I served as a volunteer copywriter for the Northeast Arkansas Advertising Federation ADvocacy initiative, which has developed a full marketing campaign for a regional animal rescue nonprofit organization, The Arkansas Pet Savers (TAPS). My editing and proofreading experience ranges from single-author book and multi-author textbook manuscripts to concert programs.
I am skilled in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. I have completed courses and workshops in online writing, collaborative writing, document design, web design, technical editing, nonprofit branding, SEO optimization, and grant writing. In 2020, I obtained status as an Apple Certified Teacher and completed additional Garage Band, iMovie, and Clips trainings in professional development settings. I am also skilled in Adobe InDesign, Lightroom, and Photoshop. My photography has won numerous awards and I was featured as the March 2021 Spotlight Photographer by Bedford Camera and Video in Little Rock, Arkansas.
I have the ability and desire to learn about a variety of content areas and convey that knowledge to a targeted audience. With a wide range of interests and previous experiences, my professional interests include editing, proofreading, copywriting, and instructional writing. I am open to job opportunities.
